Cerrillos Lodge No. 19 receives Tradtional Observance Lodge recognition

Cerrillos Lodge No. 19, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, has received recognition as the first (and only) Traditional Observance Lodge in the Grand Jurisdiction of New Mexico!

Thanks to the dedication and perseverance of Worshipful Brother Steve Chappelle, PM, the Masonic Restoration Foundation (http://masonicrestorationfoundation.org/index.html) has recognized Cerrillos Lodge No. 19 as a Traditional Observance Lodge (http://masonicrestorationfoundation.org/lodges.html) and in keeping with the philosophy of the Traditional Observance Lodge model. The core belief of the Traditional Observance Lodge philosophy is that the primary purpose of Freemasonry is as an initiatic order and serves to encourage men to pursue self improvement through Freemasonry which, in turn, makes them better husbands, fathers, and members of their respective communities.

The Traditional Observance Lodge model is an ongoing pursuit and, in case you might think the brethren of Cerrillos Lodge are in danger of resting on their laurels, requires Lodges that subscribe to the Traditional Observance philosophy to maintain an unequalled level of ritual proficiency and understanding of the Craft’s laws, rules, and regulations. Cerrillos Lodge No. 19 is chartered under the Grand Lodge of New Mexico and its Traditional Observance Lodge designation does not, in any way, interfere with the constitution and bylaws of the Grand Jurisdiction of New Mexico; the aforementioned designation serves only to enhance the Masonic experience by lending further solemnity and dignity to the institution and its rituals and ceremonies.

This is an exciting journey and we welcome each and every one of you to join us!

More information on what a Traditional Observance Lodge asks of its members and what it strives to do for its members, read the Eight Steps to Excellence: The Observant Lodge by W:. B:. Andrew Hammer, PM here: http://masonicrestorationfoundation.org/documents/Eight%20Steps.pdf. This brief essay will introduce you to eight simple points which seek to instill the importance of our fair Craft upon each and every brother within its ranks, from the youngest Entered Apprentice to the oldest Master Mason.
